We are seeking a Product Engineer to work with North American customers
Holmbergs Safety Systems, an 80 year old company, is seeking an engineer with mechanical/restraint mechanism experience to design new product and assist in applications for our North American occupant safety customers. Holmbergs is the world leader in niche safety restraints (seat belts, cargo control, child seat components), with four global manufacturing locations and six commercial offices, including Kalamazoo, Michigan. Holmbergs Group, a global leader in child safety seat and vehicle occupant securement, is currently seeking a Product Engineer to work with North American customers.
This position is responsible for direct interaction with client engineering teams providing product recommendations and design support. In addition you will be a part of the global product team, using your experience in design and materials, to enhance current components/applications and develop new solutions. As the technical team grows, you will provide oversite and manage the group to meet corporate goals and North American objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide direct design input for New Product Development efforts.
Direct development activities from concept design, prototype development, lab and field test validation to formal release for sale of new products.
Define projects for development and research
Work with customers, end users, commercial personnel to define and establish technical requirements for new product and new application projects
Coordinate the development of new product designs with Holmbergs’ other design centers throughout the world.
Develop and implement improved methods and procedures to increase effectiveness of the development process, testing and validation of products
Coordinate with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure best design-for-manufacture results
Ensure activities and documentation meet with Holmbergs corporate guidelines and the APQP process.
Depending on experience, some remote office opportunity may be possible
10-20% Travel (on average) is required (currently not travelling)
Must have prior experience in the development of vehicle occupant securement components, seat belts and seat belt mechanisms.
B.S. Mechanical Engineer (or similar technical degree)
Three years mechanical design experience including demonstrated understanding of mechanisms, materials and manufacturability.
Strong understanding of the role U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle standards play in the validation of product and compliance.
Direct vehicle occupant safety experience required.
Previous customer consultative experience is helpful.
